Nicolle's Journey
Born and raised in New Jersey, Nicolle Rochelle realized that she was « born to be a singer » when she was just 5 years old.
After informing her parents of this, she was put into performing classes and soon after began her professional career as an actress, singer, and dancer at the age of 8 years old in New York City. Nicolle’s first big role was alongside Ringo Starr on a TV series called "Shining Time Station", she went on to obtain roles as a series regular, recurring character, guest star and lead in many well-known TV series and films, as well as in theatre and musical theatre, on and off Broadway.
After graduating Brown University with a degree in Linguistic Anthropology, Culture and Communication, she was offered to play her dream role of Josephine Baker for an international tour starting in Paris from 2006 - 2010. During this time, Nicolle began exploring authentic jazz roots, traditional blues, boogie woogie and rhythm and blues.
Inspired by this music so revered and practiced throughout Europe, Nicolle expanded her repertoire to include tribute concerts to Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzegerald, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Sugar Pie Desanto, Tina Turner, and her latest favorite singer, "The Japanese Ella Fitzegerald" Chiemi Eri, among others. Ever interested in exploring and expanding her range, Nicolle continues to sing la chanson française in the style of Edith Piaf and Josephine Baker as well as study classical voice and perform with electro and house DJ’s.
Lead singer of her own groups Nicolle & Dimes and Nikki & Jules, she also sings regularly with groups such as The Hot Sugar Band, The Big Five, The Shirt Tail Stompers, The Duke Orchestra, The Hot Antic Band, The Harlem Drivers, The Fats Boys, Swiss Yerba Buena Creole Rice Band, Ginkgoa and many others as an invited guest on the international scene.
Presently, Nicolle is collaborating with SOMA Breath in order to become a master instructor and create new music for breathwork and ecstatic dance, as well as developing her own projects with original compositions, Modern GEAIsha and Midnight Roses.
